Earthly associations,
When mind on the matter broods,
Come out in the form of cliches,
Proverbs and platitudes.
Walk tall along life's highways.
Do nothing to your shame.
Avoid the crooked byways.
Unblemished keep your name.
Pursue your goals with honour.
Your word your bond should be,
And honesty in all things
Your constant policy.
Let sweat from honest labour
Lie daily on your brow,
With nose above the grindstone,
Or hand upon the plough.
Resist all base temptations.
All shameful thoughts expel,
And when a things worth doing,
Then do it really well.
If we send our brains to the cleaners,
And they're back in a week or two,
Will it change our thoughts and demeanours?
Will cliches seem fresh and new?
